Shoulder pain: treatment without surgery
Shoulder pain is one of the most common reasons for a visit. Many people think they need surgery, but most shoulder problems improve with a well-directed conservative and interventional treatment. As a rehabilitation doctor, I assess your shoulder with ultrasound in the same visit and design a plan tailored to you.
Book appointmentCommon symptoms
- Pain when lifting the arm or sleeping on that side
- Loss of strength or mobility
- A stiff or «locked» shoulder
- Clicking or pain with everyday movements (combing your hair, dressing)
My approach
After assessing your shoulder with ultrasound, I identify the exact cause (rotator cuff tendinitis, calcifications, adhesive capsulitis or «frozen shoulder», bursitis…) and suggest the least aggressive treatment possible: guidance, ultrasound-guided injections, barbotage for calcifications or hydrodilatation for frozen shoulder.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need shoulder surgery?
In most cases, no. The majority of tendinitis, calcifications and capsulitis improve without surgery. An operation is reserved for specific situations after assessing your case.
What is a frozen shoulder?
It is adhesive capsulitis: the shoulder capsule becomes inflamed and retracts, limiting movement. It responds well to ultrasound-guided hydrodilatation combined with rehabilitation.
